90th Texas Legislature — Legislative Priorities

Introducing the Lone Star Humane Bill Tracker

Animal welfare legislation can move quickly in Austin. Our new Bill Tracker makes it easier to understand what is happening, what matters and where a bill stands.

Following legislation in Texas isn’t always simple.

During a legislative session, thousands of bills can be introduced. A proposal may be filed, referred to committee, amended, voted on, sent to another chamber or stalled at any number of points along the way.

For Texans who care about animal welfare, finding the bills that matter and understanding where they stand can become a project of its own.

That’s why Lone Star Humane Association created our Bill Tracker.

One place for the legislation we’re watching

Our Bill Tracker gives advocates a focused view of priority Texas legislation affecting animals.

Instead of asking supporters to continually search through legislative records, we’re organizing the bills our team is following into a resource designed specifically for animal welfare advocacy.

The official Texas Legislature Online system provides extensive public information about legislation, including bill text, authors and sponsors, committee activity, legislative actions and voting information.

Our goal isn’t to replace that official record.

It’s to make the information most relevant to our mission easier to find and follow.

Know where a bill stands

A bill can change significantly between the day it is introduced and the day lawmakers cast their final votes.

Committee referrals matter. Hearings matter. Amendments matter. Votes matter.

The Bill Tracker helps our community keep those developments in view so that when there is an important opportunity to contact a legislator, attend a hearing or speak up, advocates have the context they need.

Turning information into action

Tracking legislation isn’t the end goal.

Better outcomes for animals are.

When an important animal welfare bill begins moving through the Texas Legislature, Lone Star Humane Association can use the portal alongside our advocacy efforts to help supporters understand what is happening and when their voices may have the greatest impact.

Because effective advocacy starts with knowing what’s happening.

And Texans shouldn’t have to become legislative experts just to participate.

Explore the bills we’re following and stay connected to animal welfare legislation across Texas.
