Accessibility

A movement that isn't reachable by everyone isn't a movement. We want every Texan who wants to help pass humane legislation to be able to use this site — whatever device, browser, or assistive technology they're on.
What we're aiming for
We build toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. That's the standard most widely used to judge whether a site is usable by people with disabilities.
What we've done
- Color contrast. Text and interface colors across the site were audited and adjusted to meet AA contrast ratios, including button labels and text set on our terracotta and navy brand colors.
- Keyboard navigation. The site can be operated without a mouse, and focus indicators are visible as you move through it.
- Screen readers. Pages use meaningful headings and landmarks, images carry alternative text, and the mobile menu is hidden from assistive technology while it's closed.
- Reduced motion. If your system is set to reduce motion, scroll animations are turned off.
- Forms. Every field has a visible, associated label, and confirmation and error messages are announced to screen readers.
Where we know we fall short
We're being straight with you rather than claiming a clean bill of health:
- The site has not yet been through a formal third-party accessibility audit.
- Some legislative source documents we link to are hosted by the State of Texas and may not meet the same standard. We don't control those files.
- A few sections are still being filled in as coalition content arrives, and will be re-checked as they're added.
Tell us when something doesn't work
If you hit a barrier on this site, we want to hear about it — it's the fastest way we fix things. Email sbobosky@mail.smu.edu or use our contact form, and tell us the page you were on and what went wrong.
Because we're an all-volunteer organization it may take us a little while to reply, but accessibility reports go to the front of the queue. If you need information from a page you can't use, say so and we'll get it to you in another format.
